A story woven through generations
Behind Traditional Art are Maria and Iulian Mihalachi, two artisans whose work is inspired by their family heritage, as well as by creativity, perseverance, and a deep love for Romanian tradition.
Maria grew up surrounded by woven rugs. Her mother wove traditional rugs and mats, while her father travelled across the country to attend various events where he sold the family’s textiles. The rhythm of the loom, the beauty of wool, and the visual language of traditional motifs were part of her life long before they became part of a brand.
Years later, during a difficult period in their lives, Maria and Iulian faced challenges with another business they were running. At that time, Maria returned to weaving, initially as a way to create something useful and help rebuild their stability. What began out of necessity gradually became something much greater.
Her work began to attract attention. Museums, exhibitions, traditional fairs, collectors, and people who valued authentic craftsmanship started to take notice. Over time, the pieces they created became more than simple products. They became a recognised expression of Romanian textile art.
Today, as she always has, Maria creates her own sketches and designs for every woven piece, combining traditional inspiration with her personal artistic vision. Iulian handcrafts traditional Romanian masks, each one filled with character, symbolism, and individuality.
Together, they have transformed Traditional Art into a family brand built on craftsmanship, culture, and heritage.
